Last winter I was sketching in Toll Wood, by the Tweed in Innerleithen at different times of day. This painting originated in a sketch I made as light was just beginning to creep into the wood at dawn as the river glimmered below. The colours, while somewhat unreal, convey to me a feeling of warmth and peace.
