After graduating in fine art Hilary exhibited in the South and London for a few years, then moved to the Scottish Borders in 1980.
”I exhibit mostly in and around the Borders and Edinburgh. The beauty of Scotland has, in various ways, had a big influence on what I paint and the colours I use. I usually paint in acrylic or gouache but also love to draw in a variety of mediums.
Lots of things can inspire me, colours, light and the play of shadows or even a piece of text or music. My style is usually quite detailed but I like to counteract this sometimes by using a more sketchy, fluid approach.”
